After losing in extra innings on Friday, Coastal Carolina has stormed to the Conway Regional finals to face Duke after beating the Blue Devils 8-6 on Sunday, capping off three straight wins by a total of 31-13.
The Blue Devils will look to respond after the Chanticleers rattled off three runs in the seventh to break a tie and extend its season on its home field. Coastal Carolina is a slight favorite on Monday to make the Super Regionals, can the team overcome some suspect pitching to advance with its vaunted offense?
Here are the odds:
Coastal Carolina vs. Duke odds, run line and total
Coastal Carolina vs. Duke prediction and pick
Coastal Carolina relies on its offense to do the heavy lifting. The team is fourth in college baseball in runs scored this season and are top 15 in both on-base and slugging percentage. However, the team is below the national average in ERA (178th) and right around average in fielding percentage (145th).
The Blue Devils can rake as well, 38th in home runs per game and are bolstered by a pitching staff that is top 10 in ERA. It will be a battle of which pitching staff can find control on Monday night after both offenses got off to blistering starts on Sunday. The Chanticleers scored four in the bottom of the first while Duke countered with five in the second.
Eventually, the Chants pulled away, but I still give a noted edge to the Blue Devils pitching staff that has been nails all season, fourth in strikeouts per nine innings with 11.
Coastal Carolina's offense is scary, but Duke's pitching staff makes the ACC team a valuable small underdog on Monday.
