Patrick Mahomes wears the same pair of underwear for every NFL game
Patrick Mahomes wears the same pair of underwear for every NFL game
Elite Sportsmen and women are some of the most superstitious people on the planet, but Patrick Mahomes takes things to whole new (and pretty grim) levels. He’s one of the biggest names in the NFL and the 28-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is very meticulous when it comes to preparing for games. In fact, he’s now revealed that he has worn the exact same pair of red underwear for every single NFL game he’s played over the past six years. To make things even worse, he admitted that he didn’t wash them every time. The sordid detail was first revealed by his former Chiefs teammate Chad Henne, who spoke on a podcast with ESPN’s Adam Schefter about it earlier this year. Discussing the unusual habit, Schefter asked: "So he signs this half a billion dollar contract and he's still wearing the same pair of underwear throughout his entire career?" "Only on Sundays," Henne replied. Now, Mahomes himself has spoken about it during a chat with NFL legend Eli Manning on Monday Night Football. "I love a good superstition, but can't you just do the same pre-game meal? Does it have to be the red underwear?" Manning said. "First, my wife Brittany got them for me. So I'm not throwing y'all down, but I have to wear them," Mahomes replied. "At the same time, I threw them on that first season, we had a pretty good season that season." While Mahomes said that he only wears them on game days, he admitted he can’t wash them for a while if he’s playing particularly well. "I mean if we're on a hot streak, I can't wash them, you know? I've just got to keep it rolling. As long as we're winning, I'll keep the superstition going." Something to think about the next time the Chiefs win, perhaps. Chelsea face fresh scrutiny over secret payments made under Roman Abramovich
Chelsea face fresh scrutiny over secret payments made under Roman Abramovich
Chelsea are set to face further scrutiny from the Premier League over reports of payments connected to the club’s former owner Roman Abramovich. The Guardian has reported that Abramovich, a Russian billionaire who owned the club for 19 years until he was sanctioned by the British government last year, used offshore companies to make payments which appear to have been for the club’s benefit. The Premier League is already investigating the club after their new owners became aware of “potentially incomplete financial reporting” linked to the Abramovich era while completing their due diligence as part of the takeover and self-reported the information they discovered to the league and other regulators. The Premier League has not commented on Wednesday’s report, but it is likely it will now look closely at the information reported by the Guardian. A Chelsea spokesperson said: “These allegations pre-date the club’s current ownership. They are based on documents which the club has not been shown and do not relate to any individual who is presently at the club.” Chelsea’s stance under their new owners has been consistent – to examine any allegations of impropriety under the previous ownership as soon as they become aware of them. Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and invested millions as the club enjoyed unprecedented success, including Champions League victories in 2012 and 2021 as well as five Premier League titles. He was forced to sell the club last year after his assets were frozen by the Government following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The FA has confirmed it is investigating, although it is unclear at this stage whether its investigation relates to the information Chelsea self-reported or the new allegations. Chelsea entered into €10m (£8.7m) settlement with Uefa after also self-reporting the information which came to light during the 2022 takeover to European football’s governing body. Date for Tyson Fury’s title fight with Oleksandr Usyk to be announced on Thursday
Date for Tyson Fury’s title fight with Oleksandr Usyk to be announced on Thursday
A date for Tyson Fury’s undisputed world heavyweight title fight with Oleksandr Usyk is set to be revealed on Thursday. Fury had been expected to clash with WBA, IBF and WBO champion Usyk on 23 December, but the British boxer was left bloodied and bruised in a contentious points win over Francis Ngannou last month. That fight was rumoured to be the preamble to the announcement of Fury taking on Usyk and even though the pair got in the ring together, the swollen eye and cut on the forehead of the Gypsy King pushed back the widely-reported proposed date, but an announcement is expected for Thursday. Bob Arum, chief executive at Fury’s American promoter Top Rank, told Sky Sports: “I can confirm they will fight each other in Saudi Arabia. “There will be a press conference in London for Thursday of this week – the 16th – and they’ll confirm the date and all the other circumstances of the fight taking place. “Tyson is ready to fight in February, if that’s when it happens. Remember going in with Ngannou, who showed himself to be very talented, nobody had a book on him because he had never had a prize fight. “Fighting Usyk is totally different because they have reams and reams of film on Usyk. So, I think Tyson will be a lot better prepared against Usyk than he was against Ngannou. “I have great confidence in Tyson Fury. I really believe Fury against Usyk will be a classic match.” Read More Jon Rahm says it is ‘mainly my fault’ that he cannot catch Rory McIlroy in Dubai Man arrested over death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson bailed by police Ex-Chelsea keeper Petr Cech joins Belfast Giants as ‘temporary emergency cover’

Cole Palmer explains origins of viral TikTok of him rapping
Cole Palmer explains origins of viral TikTok of him rapping
Cole Palmer has got plenty of string to his bow – creative midfielder, member of the England squad for the first time and, as TikTok users will know, a viral sensation. The Chelsea player has been called up to the senior squad this week, but it’s not just his on-field performances that have been catching the eye. Instead, believe it or not, it’s his rapping. There’s a viral clip doing the rounds which sees the 21-year-old rap along to the dancehall song ‘Clarks’ by Vybz Kartel. It resurfaces whenever Palmer performs well on the pitch, and he was asked about the video in a press conference ahead of England’s Euro 24 game against Malta on Friday. Palmer said that he rapped along to the song, while also referencing his Caribbean heritage, as his dad is from Saint Kitts in the West Indies. @afootypageig COLE JERMAINE PALMER IS A REAL YARD MAN! 🇯🇲🤣 I know he was fuming this deal never got concluded in time for Carnival. A great deal for himself and Chelsea. He was too far down in the pecking order for a player of his quality at City, and, his profile is one Pochettino’s side massively lack! 👏 🔵 #colepalmer #mancity #chelseafc #premierleague "Me and my sister were in the house one day and there was a TikTok trend going around. People were singing songs and stuff and then my sister said ‘Come and sing this song’,” he said when asked about the clip. "On my boots it has the St. Kitts flag and the England flag and my sister wanted to make sure the St. Kitts flag got in. She posted it and it stayed quiet for quite a while to be fair and then one day I saw it everywhere and now I can't stop seeing it." Who knows, maybe if he plays and scores against Malta we can expect a celebratory rap from one of England’s youngest new stars. Of course, he's hardly the first footballer to have a go at dropping a few bars with the likes of Ian Wright, Andy Cole and Clint Dempsey all trying their hand a rap career. Going back further, who could forget Chris Waddle and Glenn Hoddle's 'Diamond Lights.' Palmer came through the Manchester City academy before moving to Chelsea for £40 million in the summer. He has played for England at all youth levels, beginning with his first U15s cap in 2016.
