Cole Palmer has got plenty of string to his bow – creative midfielder, member of the England squad for the first time and, as TikTok users will know, a viral sensation. The Chelsea player has been called up to the senior squad this week, but it’s not just his on-field performances that have been catching the eye. Instead, believe it or not, it’s his rapping. There’s a viral clip doing the rounds which sees the 21-year-old rap along to the dancehall song ‘Clarks’ by Vybz Kartel. It resurfaces whenever Palmer performs well on the pitch, and he was asked about the video in a press conference ahead of England’s Euro 24 game against Malta on Friday. She posted it and it stayed quiet for quite a while to be fair and then one day I saw it everywhere and now I can't stop seeing it." Who knows, maybe if he plays and scores against Malta we can expect a celebratory rap from one of England’s youngest new stars. Of course, he's hardly the first footballer to have a go at dropping a few bars with the likes of Ian Wright, Andy Cole and Clint Dempsey all trying their hand a rap career. Going back further, who could forget Chris Waddle and Glenn Hoddle's 'Diamond Lights.' Palmer came through the Manchester City academy before moving to Chelsea for £40 million in the summer. He has played for England at all youth levels, beginning with his first U15s cap in 2016. Chelsea are set to face further scrutiny from the Premier League over reports of payments connected to the club’s former owner Roman Abramovich. The Guardian has reported that Abramovich, a Russian billionaire who owned the club for 19 years until he was sanctioned by the British Government last year, used offshore companies to make payments which appear to have been for the club’s benefit. The Premier League is already investigating the club after their new owners became aware of “potentially incomplete financial reporting” linked to the Abramovich era while completing their due diligence as part of the takeover and self-reported the information they discovered to the league and other regulators. The Premier League has not commented on Wednesday’s report, but it is likely it will now look closely at the information reported by the Guardian. A Chelsea spokesperson said: “These allegations pre-date the club’s current ownership. They are based on documents which the club has not been shown and do not relate to any individual who is presently at the club.” Chelsea’s stance under their new owners has been consistent – to examine any allegations of impropriety under the previous ownership as soon as they become aware of them. Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and invested millions as the club enjoyed unprecedented success, including Champions League victories in 2012 and 2021 as well as five Premier League titles. He was forced to sell the club last year after his assets were frozen by the Government following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The FA has confirmed it is investigating, although it is unclear at this stage whether its investigation relates to the information Chelsea self-reported or the new allegations reported by the Guardian. Chelsea entered into a 10 million euro (£8.7million) settlement with UEFA after also self-reporting the information which came to light during the 2022 takeover to European football’s governing body. Luis Diaz has been reunited with his father, who was released by rebels after being held hostage in Colombia for 12 days. The Liverpool striker and his father, Luis Manuel Diaz Jimenez, cried as they embraced each other for the first time since the kidnapping ordeal. Armed men on motorcycles abducted Diaz’s parents from a gas station in the small town of Barrancas on 28 October. His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued within hours by police, but his father was held by the National Liberation Army (ELN) for 12 days. Diaz, who returned to Colombia on international duty this week, was reunited with his father in an emotional moment shared by the national team on social media.
