Martin Tyler will leave his role as Sky Sports' main football commentator ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 77-year-old has decided to bring the curtain down on an illustrious career at Sky having first been brought in shortly prior to the inauguration of the Premier League in 1990. He previously worked at ITV.

The Daily Telegraph were first to report on Saturday that Tyler would be stepping aside from his current role, though he is not planning on retiring. This news has since been confirmed by Sky Sports.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Tyler said: "In my humble opinion, the huge corporation Sky is today has stemmed from Sky Sports' innovative and inspired coverage of the Premier League. It has been a privilege to play a small part in the broadcasting history of the greatest league in the world.

"Along the way I have worked alongside legions of wonderful professionals in all aspects of the television industry. I thank them all for their support and expertise. It has been an honour to be a member of a very gifted team."

Tyler's voice is one of the most iconic in the history of sports broadcasting, commentating on several huge moments in the Premier League era.

His most notable piece of commentary came in 2012 when Sergio Aguero scored a 94th-minute goal to win Manchester City their first domestic title in 44 years.

Other iconic moments Tyler's given his voice to include Stan Collymore's last gasp winner for Liverpool against Newcastle in 1997 - often hailed as the greatest Premier League match of all time - and Wayne Rooney's overhead kick for Manchester United against Manchester City in 2011.
