EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Star running back Saquon Barkley practiced on a limited basis with a sprained right ankle on Thursday and his status for the New York Giants game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night is still uncertain.

Barkley was among five players listed as limited by coach Brian Daboll after the practice at the team's headquarters.

In the portion of the practice open to reporters, Barkley worked away from the team. He did some agility drills, moving his feet from left to right and then right to left. He carried a ball straight ahead, stepping over cushioned rectangular curbs. He also took pitches from quarterback Daniel Jones and ran upfield.

“Going to put him out here, go through some individual stuff, let him run around and see how he does,” Daboll said before practice. “But again, making progress. I think this is a good evaluation today in pads to see where he’s at.”

Daboll, whose team has struggled getting off to a 1-2 start, was not available for comment after practice.

Barkley did not speak to reporters after practice. He played chess in the locker room.

The previous time Barkley had a high ankle sprain was 2019 and he missed three games.

Left guard Ben Bredeson, who missed New York's previous game against San Francisco on Sept. 21 with a concussion, practiced fully. However, he will remain in the concussion protocol until he is re-examined by an independent neurologist and given a post-practice final clearance.

The other Giants who were limited were tight end Daniel Bellinger (neck), outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari (hamstring), left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) and defensive lineman D.J. Davidson (elbow).

Thomas and Ojulari have missed the past two games.

Seattle is 2-1 and on a two-game winning streak.
