The 2023/24 Premier League season is just one month old, and we've already been treated to a number of save of the season contenders.

Throughout the month, the men between the sticks made wonderful save, after wonderful save, after wonderful save.

Here's the six saves that have made the August Castrol Save of the Month shortlist:

1. Guglielmo Vicario (vs Man Utd)

It's fair to say that Tottenham Hotspur's new starting goalkeeper has endeared himself to fans in his opening few weeks at the club.

Vicario has been in fantastic form for Spurs, shining particularly brightly against Man Utd when he kept a clean sheet and made a stunning one-handed save to deny a Casemiro header late in the game.

2. Jordan Pickford (vs Wolves)

One to file under the 'how did he save that?' category, Jordan Pickford's reflex stop to prevent an own goal, when the ball awkwardly ricocheted off James Tarkowski just inside the six-yard box, was simply stunning.

3. Jose Sa (vs Everton)

Just three minutes later in the exact same game, Jose Sa pulled off an equally fantastic stop.

The Wolves number one rushed back onto his line to just tip an Abdoulaye Doucoure header over the crossbar.

4. Mark Flekken (vs Crystal Palace)

Another summer signing who has impressed this season is Brentford's new starting goalie Mark Flekken.

The Dutch shot stopper pulled off two fantastic saves in the draw with Crystal Palace on 26 August, first denying a Jefferson Lerma header and then keeping Andre Ayew's effort out by leaping in front of his follow-up strike.

5. Alphonse Areola (vs Brighton)

The new West Ham number one made nine saves in total for his team in the win over Brighton and Hove Albion, and the pick of the bunch came when he was able to divert a stinging Evan Ferguson shot up onto the bar and out for a corner kick.

6. Alisson Becker (vs Newcastle United)

Alisson Becker has been regarded as one of, if not the, best goalkeeper in the world for the last number of years, and judging by his save against Newcastle United it's pretty easy to see why.

The Brazil star amazingly got two strong hands on a thunderous Miguel Almiron volley to keep the Maggpies at bay.
