The Atlanta Braves continue to look like the predicted juggernaut it was before the season, and bettors continue to be impressed.
The Braves are in first place of the NL East by 3.5 games of the Miami Marlins, who were predicted to come in fourth ahead of the year, and are tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the best record in the National League. While we are around a third of the way through the season, people are betting big on Atlanta to win its second World Series in three season.
That's a ton of confidence in early June for a baseball team that still has to play two-thirds of its games, but it's tough to find challengers to the Braves as the Mets and Phillies are both under .500 in the division and the Dodgers pitching staff is far from its recent form. While the Diamondbacks have been one of the league's best stories in 2023, the team is new to contending and still lacks the pitching depth that the Braves have in order to hold up for a postseason run.
