Yankees held hit-less through 10 but beat Brewers in 13 innings

The New York Yankees seized an unlikely triumph Sunday, spoiling Milwaukee's no-hit bid in the 11th inning before beating the Brewers 4-3 in 13 innings at Yankee Stadium.

Brewers pitchers Corbin Burnes, DeVin Williams and Abner Uribe had combined to hold the Yankees without a hit through 10 innings and were looking for Major League Baseball's first ever 11-inning no-hitter.

Burnes carried much of the load, dominating through eight innings before he was lifted in favor of Williams. Williams retired three straight before he was replaced by Uribe in the 10th.

The Brewers had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the 11th when they sent Joel Payamps to the mound in the bottom of the inning.

Oswaldo Cabrera belted a run-scoring double for the Yankees' first hit of the game and the tying run.

New York slugger Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run in the 12th to make it 3-3 and Kyle Higashioka's run-batted-in double in the 13th finally sealed it for the Yankees.

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole gave up just three hits while striking out nine over seven shutout innings.

"They had some chances to take the lead, they were putting together good at-bats and scoring first," Cole said. "We were no-hit for 10 innings and then we started chipping and then we came back and we started grabbing some momentum.

"So it was a cool combination of two narratives that culminated in the win for us."
