Earlier in the week, New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German didn't take the mound at the start of Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after he felt discomfort in his armpit. While Jhony Brito got the start, German did enter the game in relief for five innings.

On Wednesday, after the trade deadline, the Yankees could not answer as to whether German will make a start this weekend in a pivotal series against the Houston Astros. Manager Aaron Boone said that German was feeling better in the armpit area, but in regards to making his next start, "We'll have more on that as the day unfolds."

Hours later, the Yankees released a statement, announcing that German will be placed on the restricted list, as he voluntarily receives inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse.
