United States women’s national team interim manager Twila Kilgore announced the 27-player roster for the two October friendlies against Colombia, with Sophia Smith and Becky Sauerbrunn back in the fold.
The team will first host Colombia on October 26 at America First Field in Sandy, Utah before the two teams travel to Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on October 29 for the final match. The roster features 24 players who were part of the September camp that saw the USWNT triumph 3-0 and 2-0 over South Africa in friendlies.
"I was very impressed and pleased with the focus, energy and dedication of the players to prepare for the two games against South Africa in September and I’m expecting the same for this camp, even if we’ll only have a few training days together," said Kilgore.
"Once again, this roster is a mix of the players from the World Cup team who are fit to play international minutes, players trying to establish themselves in the environment and players who are taking a next step in their growth through this experience with the senior national team. All of these players are excited for the future and for these two tough tests against Colombia, which is a team we might see in the Olympics next year."
Previously injured Smith, Sauerbrunn and Midge Purce will return for the American side, three much-needed reinforcements as the team prepares for the Olympics. The roster also includes two uncapped 18-year-olds forward Jaedyn Shaw of the San Diego Wave and Portland Thorns FC midfielder Olivia Moultrie. This is the first senior call-up for Moultrie and the second for Shaw, who trained with the USA during the September friendlies but did not see time during the game.
