U.S. Open power rankings (Who are the top golfers at Los Angeles Country Club?)

After a legendary Canadian Open last week that saw a Canadian win the event for the first time since 1954, the top golfers in the world will now head to California for the third major of the year, the U.S. Open.

This year's edition of the tournament will be hosted at Los Angeles Country Club for the first time ever. It's a famous course and golf nerds everywhere are gushing at the opportunity to watch a major tournament take place there.

In this article, I'm going to power rank the top 10 golfers in the field, based on my personal opinion as well as their betting odds.

Let's jump into it.

US Open power rankings

1) Scottie Scheffler +700

Scottie Scheffler only has two wins this season, but if he could hit a putt or two he'd have many more. His strokes gained: tee-to-green numbers are otherworldly. He is gaining 2.775 strokes tee-to-green per round. The next closest golfer is Rahm who is averaging 1.847 strokes gained per round in that category.

He's the rightful favorite this week. If he can even have an average round putting, he might just run away with it.

2) Jon Rahm +1000

This golf season continues to be Scheffler and Rahm and then everyone else. He hasn't been as good from tee-to-green as Scheffler, but his putting at times has been much better. His distance off the tee should be able to help him at Los Angeles Country Club as well.

3) Brooks Koepka +1100

Brooks Koepka followed up a T2 finish at The Masters with a win at the PGA Championship. He's back in his peak form and he belongs in the number three spot in my power rankings, if not higher.

4) Viktor Hovland +1600

Viktor Hovland is 27-under in his last three majors, which is seven shots better than the next best golfer. He's also coming off a win at The Memorial Tournament. He's peaking at the right time and might be ready to grab his first major victory.

5) Rory McIlroy +1200

Rory McIlroy has played some great golf lately, but has melted away on Sundays. Still, with him now being fourth on the odds list, there might finally be some value in betting on him.

6) Xander Schauffele +2000

Xander Schauffele is still seeking his first major and you can't ignore how well has has played this season with four top five finished in his last seven starts. He's also a native of Southern California, so there may be a bit of a home field advantage for him this week.

7) Collin Morikawa +3300

Just like Schauffele, Collin Morikawa has a Southern California native and his first major win was the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park, another California course. His strokes gained: approach numbers are still amongst the best on the PGA Tour, but now he needs to be able to hit a few putts. If he can, he'll be in contention on Sunday.

8) Patrick Cantlay +1600

Patrick Cantlay is another golfer still seeking his first major, but he's been posting fantastic numbers this season. I think he's a bit overpriced at +1600, but he if he brings his "A" game, he's going to be tough to beat.

9) Max Homa +2800

Max Homa needs to at least contend at a major to take the next step in his career. He's a Los Angeles native so no golfer will have as much of a home field advantage as him. He needs to figure out how to translate his game to a major venue.

10) Bryson DeChambeau +4000

Bryson DeChambeau shocked the golf world by having a strong showing at the PGA Championship, finish T4. His only major victory was at the US Open, which shows how his game fits a US Open venue. His distance off the tee and ability to hit it out of the rough will give him an advantage on the field.
