Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed a man has been arrested on charges of criminal damage after the club's stadium was vandalised.

The £1.2bn stadium was targeted on Monday evening and the suspect in question is understood to have caused damage which could run into the six-figure range.

"We can confirm that an individual was arrested for criminal damage following an incident that took place on Monday night," a club statement read.

"There is no indication that this incident is linked to anti-semitism."

Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou has made no secret of just how impressed he has been by the stadium.

"The atmosphere was incredible," he said after the 2-0 victory over Manchester United. "The energy they created in the stadium right from the first whistle was brilliant. To be honest, I thought it helped us."

Following the dramatic comeback victory over Sheffield United, the boss added: "I do put a big emphasis on that, wherever I've been, because ultimately for your supporters, as much you enjoy the away wins because you’ve got to earn every one of them, it's when they come to their home ground that you want to really reward them.

"From that perspective, if you can create that atmosphere, I've been very fortunate that at the last three clubs I've had we’ve had even in Japan 30,000 to 40,000, and at Celtic they’re always sold out, and it creates an atmosphere and you can see today it helps the team."
