Stanford is off one of the most memorable wins of the college baseball season as starter Quinn Mathews preserved the team's bullpen by tossing 156 pitches in Sunday's season extending win against Texas.
Texas and Stanford head to a Game 3 on Monday night in Palo Alto with both teams looking to punch a ticket to Omaha, Nebraska in the College Baseball World Series. This game is lined as a near coin flip, so how should we bet it?
Here are the odds for Monday's win-or-go-home matchup with a bet on the total.
Texas vs. Stanford odds, run line and total
Texas vs. Stanford prediction and pick
Both games went under the total, but I think we see both offenses show up in Game 3. While it was admirable that Mathews put up that high of a pitch count, he can't save the fact that the Cardinal have a poor pitching staff. Stanford's pitchers combined to have an ERA and WHIP outside the top 100 in the regular season and has been paced by its offense all year, averaging more than eight runs per game, top 20 in college baseball.
The team plays in hitter friendly Klein Field, but only has hit three home runs in the two games this series, and I think we see it break out against a taxed Texas staff that has used eight pitchers over the weekend.
However, Stanford's pitchers may be in for a tough outing as well as the Longhorns offense is incredibly dangerous, top 35 in slugging percentage in the regular season and averaged over seven runs per game.
In a Game 3, I'll side with both elite offenses rather than Stanford's poor pitching staff or Texas' exhausted one. Let's get our first over of the series on Monday.
