LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley has agreed to a new $3.8 million, seven-year contract.

Kittley is heading into his 25th season, which will make him the longest-tenured head coach in any sport at the Big 12 school.

The contract approved Thursday by Texas Tech regents also includes performance bonuses for the 64-year-old coach. Kittley has been at Texas Tech since 1999, and the men's team won the outdoor national championship in 2019.

Kittley’s son, Zach, is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Red Raiders' football team.

Marsha Sharp, a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, was a head coach at Texas Tech for 24 seasons until she retired after the 2005-06 season. The Lady Raiders won the 1993 national championship.

Under Kittley, the men's and women's track and field programs have won 11 Big 12 team titles and 31 individual NCAA titles. There have been 200 Big 12 individual champions and 19 Olympians, including five who have combined to win eight medals. Kittley will be inducted in December into the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Texas Tech's men claimed both the Big 12 indoor and outdoor championships last season. The men placed sixth at the NCAA outdoors championships, and the women were seventh.
