The second men's major golf tournament of the season is set to take place this week, when the best golfers in the world descend on Oak Hills for the 2023 PGA Championship.
In this article, I'm going to rank the top 10 golfers to win the PGA Championship. I'll use both the betting odds and my personal opinion to rank the golfers.
Let's dive into it.
PGA Championship Power Rankings
1) Jon Rahm +750
There's no doubt that Jon Rahm should be the favorite and the top of everyone's rankings for the PGA Championship. He's the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world and won the first major of the year, The Masters.
Also, Oak Hill's length will give him an advantage over Scottie Scheffler, as he's a bit more of a bomber.
2) Scottie Scheffler +750
It's Rahm and Scheffler and then everyone else, so I see no reason why not to put Scheffler in the No. 2 spot. Scheffler has finished 4th, T10, T11, and T5 since winning The Players Championship. He hasn't finished outside the top 12 since the CJ Cup last October.
At the very least, he'll be in contention on Sunday.
3) Xander Schauffele +2000
Xander Schauffele is peaking at the right time and now might his best chance yet to win his first Major. His last five starts have finished T5, T10, 4th, T4, and 2nd.
He was going through a stretch where he was losing strokes off the tee with his accuracy, but he has fixed that issue in recent starts. In his last start at the Wells Fargo Championship, he gained +1.21 strokes off the tee while sporting a driving accuracy 6% higher than the field average.
4) Patrick Cantlay +2000
Patrick Cantlay has finished in the top 21 in eight straight starts, so his consistency alone is going to have him in contention this week. With that being said, he hasn't historically performed well at Major championships.
His style of play fits the course well, so he's worthy of being in the top five in the power rankings.
5) Brooks Koepka +2000
Brooks Koepka looked like his old self at The Masters this year, and now he returns to an event he has already won twice. In case you were wondering, he's been continuing to perform well on the LIV Tour, recording two straight top five finishes.
6) Tony Finau +2500
Tony Finau, much like Patrick Cantlay, has just about everything a successful PGA Tour career needs outside of a Major Championship. With that being said, he has two top eight finishes over the last three PGA Championships, so he's done well at this event in the past.
He won the Mexico Open just a few weeks ago, so he's in strong form heading into this week.
7) Rory McIlroy +1200
Rory McIlroy, in no world, deserves to be set at +1200 to win this week. He hasn't won a Major since 2014 and his game is going in the wrong direction. He missed the cut at The Masters this year and then followed it up with a T47 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Still, he's Rory McIlroy so if he brings his "A" game, he can win.
8) Justin Thomas +2200
Justin Thomas is the defending PGA Champion, but he hasn't played his best golf this season. He hasn't finished inside the top five since the WM Phoenix Open in February.
Still, he has the weapons to get it done and his approach play has been dialed in the past two starts. He needs to figure out his short game to compete this weekend.
9) Dustin Johnson +2500
The week before Brooks Koepka made a deep run at winning The Masters, he won the LIV event. This time, the latest LIV winner heading into major championship week is Dustin Johnson, who won last week's Liv Golf Invitational in Tulsa.
He didn't have a strong showing at The Masters, finishing T48, but his great play off-the-tee and his recent form could make him a contender this week.
10) Collin Morikawa +3300
The 2020 PGA Champion is always a threat to win every major with his top notch iron play. Unfortunately, his putter has been disastrous in recent weeks. Still, if he can find any level of consistency with the flat stick, he'll be in contention on Sunday.
