Pervis Estupinan: Best FPL replacements for injured Brighton defender

If you have Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Pervis Estupinan in your Fantasy Premier League team, you will be greeted with the infamous red exclamation mark when opening the app ahead of this weekend's fixtures.

Unfortunately for the 54.9% of owners who have the Ecuadorian, a muscle injury suffered against Aston Villa - a game in which he scored an own goal and delivered a disappointing -2 points - will keep Estupinan out for at least a month.

Estupinan was one of the most popular defenders in the game following a strong start to the season in which he claimed 18 points from his first two matches. Despite some low-scoring performances since, the Brighton defender was always someone capable of delivering both defensive and attacking returns.

The £5.3m defender is likely to be shipped out by hundreds of thousands of managers this week, but who should you replace him with in your FPL squad?

Ben White - Arsenal

FPL Price: £5.5m

Assuming you have at least £0.2m in the bank, White is a good potential replacement for Estupinan. The Arsenal defender does have three tricky fixtures on the horizon in his next four games, including this weekend's clash with Manchester City and trips to Chelsea and Newcastle United, but the right-back is in the team of the season so far for good reason.

White has averaged 5.1 points per game, with a 14-point haul against Bournemouth his strongest showing yet. Even if the Arsenal defender doesn't provide clean sheets in a few of his next games, he can provide attacking returns, with a goal and an assist to his name so far this campaign.

Kyle Walker - Manchester City

FPL Price: £5.3m

Similarly to Arsenal, Man City have some difficult fixtures coming up. In fact, the champions face the Gunners (A), Brighton (H), Manchester United (A), Bournemouth (H), Chelsea (A), Liverpool (H) and Tottenham (H) in their next seven league fixtures.

However, Man City are the most fixture-proof side in the Premier League and it remains perfectly possible that they could deliver at least three or four clean sheets in that run. Walker has started every Premier League game this season, delivering 29 points in seven games. At £5.3m, he can be a direct replacement for Estupinan.

Pedro Porro - Tottenham

FPL Price: £5.0m

The Tottenham defender had a rocky start to life in English football, but has since found his feet under Ange Postecoglou. Porro has provided two FPL assists this season already, as well as keeping clean sheets in two other matches.

The right-back offers good attacking threat down the flank, with a favourable run of fixtures making him a strong differential option with just a 7.2% ownership. Tottenham face Luton (A), Fulham (H) and Crystal Palace (A) in their next three outings, offering him some great opportunities to return.

Matty Cash - Aston Villa

FPL Price: £4.9m

Cash is a popular FPL pick at 24.8% ownership, but for good reason. The Villa right-back has produced 34 points in seven matches, albeit including two -1 point gameweeks.

However, Cash has shown his attacking threat producing a two-goal, 17-point performance against Burnley earlier this season, while also having returned six points in his last two matches against Chelsea and Brighton. Villa have a great run of fixtures with five successive games that rank at just two on the FPL's difficulty fixture rating.

Destiny Udogie - Tottenham

FPL Price: £4.8m

If you don't fancy Pedro Porro, perhaps Tottenham's other full-back could interest you. Destiny Udogie has been sensational in his first proper season at Spurs, currently averaging 3.7 points per match in FPL.

While that total is not sensational, his attacking prowess, teamed with Spurs' easy fixture list, means the former Udinese man could be a great option. Owned by 18.9% of managers, you might want to jump on the Udogie train now.

Dan Burn - Newcastle United

FPL Price: £4.6m

The 6'7 left-back is the cheapest route into Newcastle's defensive line, but he is by no means a downgrade in regard to FPL points. In his last three games, Burn has returned 24 points, including three successive clean sheets and a goal against Sheffield United.

Newcastle are starting to find their groove and Burn's aerial quality makes him a constant threat on set-pieces. The defender scored against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek and looks a threat every time he appears in the opposition box. He could also save you a few pennies.
