Baltimore recently debuted their new Orioles City Connect jerseys. When will the team debut its sharp new look on the field?
At 31-16, the Baltimore Orioles currently hold the second-best record in all of baseball. Few expected them to be in this position before the season, but the O's are making the most of their opportunity. Having won three in a row, Baltimore is gaining ground on the AL-leading Tampa Bay Rays (34-14, 2.5 games ahead).
Fans of the Orioles will have more than just the on-field product to celebrate in the weeks to come. The team recently unveiled its new 'City Connect' uniforms, which pay homage to the unique and culturally dynamic town.
According to the team website, the new jerseys attest to "the power of our diverse narratives, aspiring individualism, and our collective journey."
"Baltimoreans draw strength from the many stories, moments, victories, and tragedies that have defined our 294-year multi-layered history. A proud, gritty, outspoken community – from Sparrows Point to Park Heights to Hopkins Plaza, the Dundalk Marine Terminal to Mount Vernon, Timonium to Tide Point, and Little Italy to Liberty Heights – that reflects the creativity and resourcefulness of the next generation of Baltimoreans, one whose parents and grandparents poured the steel, repaired the ships, founded the finest universities and greatest hospitals, welcomed the world's immigrants, and integrated the lunch counters."
When will the Baltimore Orioles wear their City Connect uniforms?
There is always risk involved when announcing uniforms that depart from a franchise's classic style, but it's hard to deny the clean, simple aesthetic appeal of the O's new threads. Black and white with flourishes of color and the team's trademark orange lettering on the back, the uniforms should look good on the field.
Naturally, fans are anticipating the uniforms' big league debut. The Orioles laid out a schedule for when the jerseys will be worn:
- May 26 vs. Texas Rangers
- May 27 vs. Texas Rangers
- June 9 vs. Kansas City Royals
- June 23 vs. Seattle Mariners
- June 30 vs. Minnesota Twins
- July 14 vs. Miami Marlins
- August 4 vs. New York Mets
- August 25 vs. Colorado Rockies
- September 15 vs. Tampa Bay Rays
The Orioles have a long way to go, but we could be witnessing the early stages of a storybook season. Hailed as underdogs in baseball's most competitive division, Baltimore is in a legitimate race for first place. A small-market team with major competitive aspirations, there may not be a better moment for a new look commemorating the city and its fans.
