No. 19 Florida Atlantic passes early test, beats No. 12 Texas A&M in ESPN Events Invitational

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Johnell Davis scored 26 points, Alijah Martin added 25 and No. 19 Florida Atlantic beat No. 12 Texas A&M 96-89 in a semifinal at the ESPN Events Invitational on Friday.

Davis and Martin combined for 11 3-pointers as FAU (4-1) went 16 of 30 (53.3%) from behind the arc.

Wade Taylor IV had 35 points for Texas A&M (5-1).

Texas A&M played the second half without Henry Coleman III, who was hurt with three minutes left in the opening half and limped off the court. The forward led the Aggies with 24 points in a 89-77 win over Butler on Thursday.

NO. 5 UCONN 90, MANHATTAN 60

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Tristen Newton recorded his third career triple-double and UConn beat Manhattan to win its 23rd consecutive nonconference game.

Newton finished with 15 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds.

Cam Spencer scored 18 points, hitting four 3-pointers, for the Huskies (6-0). Donovan Clingan added 17 points, Alex Karaban scored 12 and Hassan Diarra finished with 11.

Seydou Traore scored 13 points to lead Manhattan (3-2).

NO. 6 HOUSTON 79, MONTANA 44

HOUSTON (AP) — L.J. Cryer scored a season-high 24 points, J’Wan Roberts added 13 and Houston beat Montana.

Cryer, a transfer from Baylor, finished 9 of 16, including 5 of 12 on 3-pointers. He has scored in double figures in six straight games for Houston (7-0).

Jamal Shead had 13 points and seven assists. He became the seventh Houston player to surpass 500 career assists.

Money Williams scored 15 points and Te’Jon Sawyer added eight for Montana (2-3).

NO. 9 DUKE 80, SOUTHERN INDIANA 62

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Kyle Filipowski had 21 points and 14 rebounds as Duke pulled away from Southern Indiana in the second half.

Jeremy Roach added 18 points for the Blue Devils (5-1), who fell behind by 10 points six times before halftime and trailed 35-31 at the break against a team that that had yet to beat a Division I opponent this season.

Jeremiah Hernandez scored 15 points for the Screaming Eagles (1-6).

NO. 13 BAYLOR 95, FLORIDA 91

NEW YORK (AP) — RayJ Dennis had 24 points and eight assists, and Baylor beat Florida in the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchuoa hit a 3-pointer — his only basket of the game — to snap a tie and put Baylor (6-0) ahead for good with 9:56 left as the Bears won their seventh regular-season tournament title under coach Scott Drew.

Jalen Bridges scored 23 points while Langston Love had 16 points and Ja’Kobe Walter 11 for the Bears.

Riley Kugel had 25 points and nine rebounds for Florida (4-2). Tyrese Samuel scored 18 points and Zyon Pullin had 17.

NO. 14 NORTH CAROLINA 87, NO. 20 ARKANSAS 72

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas (AP) — RJ Davis matched his career high with 30 points, Harrison Ingram had 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and North Carolina beat Arkansas in the third-place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Arkansas’ leading scorer Tramon Mark took a hard fall on an off-balance layup attempt and stayed on the floor for several minutes before being lifted onto a stretcher with 1:12 remaining.

Mark, who scored 34 points, and Davis joined Villanova’s Eric Dixon (34) and Memphis’ David Jones (36) as 30-point scorers in the tournament. Davis scored 21 of his points in the second half.

Mark was 13 of 17 from the field, 4 of 6 behind the arc and 4 of 7 at the free-throw line to top his previous high of 26 points, coming in a Sweet 16 matchup with Auburn in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Layden Blocker added 11 points for Arkansas (4-3).

Seth Trimble finished with 12 points for North Carolina (5-1).

OKLAHOMA 72, NO. 23 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 70

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Otega Oweh tipped in Javian McCollum’s missed jumper with 1.4 seconds left to give Oklahoma a thrilling win over Southern California in the championship game of the inaugural Rady Children’s Invitational.

McCollum scored 18 points and was named tournament MVP. Oweh had 16 points and John Hugley IV added 14 for the Sooners (6-0).

USC’s DJ Rodman tied it at 70 by making both ends of a one-and-one with 27.9 seconds left. Oklahoma played for the final shot, and McCollum’s fallback jumper from just inside the 3-point line with about three seconds left bounced off the rim. Oweh crashed from the side, wasn’t boxed out by any of the four Trojans nearest the basket and put in the winner.

Boogie Ellis and Kobe Johnson scored 16 points apiece for USC (4-2).

NO. 25 MISSISSIPPI STATE 74, NICHOLLS 61

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Freshman Josh Hubbard scored 15 points and Mississippi State beat Nicholls.

Cameron Matthews had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-0). Jimmy Bell Jr., a West Virginia transfer, had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Nicholls (3-4) was led by Jamal West Jr., who finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Byron Ireland had 10 points.
