He's been a difference maker for the San Francisco 49ers since his arrival. Now defensive end Nick Bosa and his team are not necessarily on the same page.
He's off to a pretty impressive start when it comes to his NFL career. Some may say that is a bit of an understatement.
What San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has done in just four seasons bears a closer look. His impact on his team when he's been on field show just how important he is in the franchise's pursuit of a sixth Super Bowl title.
Of course, these days he's not participating at training camp. That's not a good thing for the reigning NFC West champions. However, that's not necessarily bad news for Bosa.
49ers: Nick Bosa gets a pass for skipping training camp
The 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year is entering his fifth season in the league. For now, that means the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is slated to make $17.85 million (via Spotrac) via the Niners picking up his fifth-year option. Coming off a season in which he led the league with 18.5 sacks, some may say that he's due a raise sooner than later.
As Adam Schefter stated, there's no rush to get Bosa back and it enables head coach Kyle Shanahan and new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks to evaluate some of the newer faces up front. The Niners added defensive tackle Javon Hargrave this offseason, but the offseason additions at end include Clelin Ferrell (Raiders), Austin Bryant (Lions) and 2023 fifth-round pick Robert Beal Jr. (Georgia).
Back to Bosa, a three-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro selection this past season. He missed the rest of 2020 after going down in Week 2. He's played 33 regular-season games since 2021 and has a combined 34.0 sacks and six forced fumbles. When healthy, the 49ers have appeared in three NFC title games during his tenure and reached Super Bowl LIV in 2019.
It seems like just a matter of time before he's back tormenting his teammates on the offensive line and eventually, the teams on San Francisco's 2023 schedule. When he is back doing that is another matter.
