Nebraska football: Matt Rhule facing massive competition for 4-star QB

Stone Saunders' top five should have Matt Rhule's Nebraska football program very worried.

With four-star Stone Saunders being one of the better quarterback prospects in the 2025 class, Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football program need to figure out where they stand with him fast.

The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native has 25 official offers, but has narrowed his search down to these five teams: The Georgia Bulldogs, the Kentucky Wildcats, the Miami Hurricanes, the Michigan Wolverines and Nebraska. Right this instant, Kentucky feels like the slight favorites to land him, although Nebraska is certainly right up there. What does his top five mean to us now?

To be honest, I don't think he could go wrong with any of these Power Five schools in the mix…

Whether it be Rhule, Mario Cristobal, Jim Harbaugh, Kirby Smart or Mark Stoops, those are five outstanding Power Five head coaches who have had plenty of success over the last decade or so.

Where Nebraska football stands with Stone Saunders after releasing top-five list

While it is still pretty early in the process for Saunders, here is what committing to each program would indicate. If it is Georgia, then he is good backing up Dylan Raiola and is all about winning championships. Should it be Kentucky, he is a firm believer that Liam Coen will get the most out of his talent. If it is Miami, he is so into NIL. Should it be Michigan, Saunders wants to win the Big Ten.

But I think with Nebraska, you are kind of getting some of all these teams, well, maybe not Georgia, but hear me out. With the Huskers, he'd be able to play for a Big Ten title, be developed under Marcus Satterfield and probably get some sweet NIL thrown his way. I don't know if Rhule can get UNL to Georgia, or even Michigan's level, but they could become Josh Heupel Tennessee.

Overall, Nebraska has as good of a chance at finish runner-up for Saunders' commitment outside of frontrunner Kentucky. I think the fact the Huskers are in on someone Georgia and Michigan may want is a big deal. However, I don't think him going to either perennial playoff team helps get the Cornhuskers turned around. If he were to go to Miami, then I think that certainly speaks volumes.

Nebraska must overtake Kentucky, plus keep Georgia, Miami and Michigan at bay, to get Saunders.
