MLB Rumors: Grading a Yankees trade for Dylan Carlson

Mark Powell of FanSided recently speculated an interesting trade for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees. In the trade, it would send veteran outfielder Dylan Carlson to the Yankees in exchange for right-handers Clayton Beeter and Yoendrys Gomez.

On the surface, the trade makes sense for both sides. The Yankees are in search for another outfielder and Carlson is a name that has come up internally. The Cardinals, meanwhile, plan to make Tyler O'Neill their full-time left fielder once he comes off the Injured List and have internally identified Beeter as a player of interest in the Yankees' farm system, as first reported by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Yankees will consider a plethora of outfield options and there will surely be widespread interest in Carlson, if he indeed becomes available. But I like this trade.

Grading the fit: 7.5/10.

MLB Rumors: Grading the Orioles' fit for a Shohei Ohtani trade

The Baltimore Orioles' farm system is loaded. They are probably best positioned to make a trade for Shohei Ohtani, if indeed the Los Angeles Angels make him available.

But the industry expectation is that Ohtani is going nowhere. The belief seems to be that Angels will hold onto Ohtani, as Angels owner Arte Moreno does not want to be the team owner responsible for moving Ohtani.

The thought of Ohtani, perhaps the best player in baseball history, ending up in Baltimore on a young, exciting Orioles roster is what dreams are made of. But that's essentially what it is. A dream. Because it isn't happening this trade deadline.

Grading the fit: 9/10.

Grading the reality: 1/10.

MLB Rumors: Grading a potential Tyler O'Neill-to-Braves trade

The fit here became more obvious when Eddie Rosario went down with a hamstring injury. While it's unclear if he will go on the Injured List, hamstring injuries are known to linger, and could result in him missing time now or down the line. Here is a trade FanSided speculated about on Tuesday morning:

O'Neill, meanwhile, has been on the outside looking in with the Cardinals all season. While there are reports that suggest that the team wants him to be their every day left fielder once he comes off the Injured List, that could be a leverage tactic to get opposing teams to up their offers for the power-hitting slugger.

Truthfully, I don't see this trade having much of a chance. Acquiring an injured outfielder to help fill in for another injured outfielder doesn't seem to make too much sense. Pass. Alex Anthopoulos is smarter than this.

Grading the fit: 3/10.
