Marcell Ozuna finally inspires the right kind of boos in Philadelphia

Atlanta Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna drew boos from the Philadelphia Phillies faithful after crushing a two-run homer in the 10th inning on Thursday.

Who could forget in the first month of the season when Atlanta Braves fans booed designated hitter Marcell Ozuna? those boos were warranted, as he was batting well below .100. But then, an early trip to Miami to face the Marlins turned things around, as he hit three home runs and knocked in six runs in the three-game series. Ozuna has carried that momentum ever since, once again becoming one of Atlanta's best hitters.

On Thursday, Ocuna showed just that. With the Braves up 3-0 in the top of the 10th inning against the rival Philadelphia Phillies, Ozuna crushed a pitch thrown by Yunior Marte into the left field seats at Citizens Bank Park to give the team a 5-0 lead.

As Ozuna rounded the bases, he received boos from the Phillies fans in attendance who weren't heading for the exits to beat the traffic, with the game all but over.

Braves: Marcell Ozuna crushes extra-inning home run vs. Phillies

This was a 0-0 game at the end of the ninth inning in Philadelphia, but Atlanta knocked in three runs before Ozuna's at-bat after an RBI single by Michael Harris II and a two-run single by Austin Riley. With Riley on base, Ozuna brought him home with a gigantic homer.

Ozuna had a strong May, and put up some very good numbers in June. In 16 games played, Ozuna recorded a .321 batting average, a .413 on-base percentage, a .547 slugging percentage, three home runs, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored, and 17 hits in 53 at-bats.

The Braves are now on an eight-game winning streak and prepare to face a red-hot Cincinnati Reds team that's on an 11-game winning streak.
