Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed midfielder Mason Mount has picked up another injury and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
Mount missed five games earlier this season through injury and has since struggled to force his way back into Ten Hag's starting lineup, coming off the bench in four of United's last six Premier League outings.
Having struggled for continuity since his arrival from Chelsea during the summer, Mount is once again on the sidelines after picking up an injury.
"Mason picked up an issue so we have to assess if he's available for the game or not," Ten Hag told club media on Friday.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that Mount has been ruled out of Sunday's clash with Everton but United officials are hopeful the midfielder will return to action before the end of the calendar year.
Mount will be desperate to make his comeback for United before the end of 2023 as he faces finishing the year without a single goal or assist in the Premier League.
Ten Hag remains without Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, leaving United short for numbers in midfield. Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Hannibal Mejbri are the only first-team players available to the boss.
There could be further opportunities for 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, who impressed in pre-season before an injury of his own brought his momentum to an abrupt end. Mainoo made three appearances for England's Under-19s during the international break and appears to be back to full fitness.
Defenders Tyrell Malacia, Jonny Evans and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined for United, who are also sweating over the fitness of striker Rasmus Hojlund.
