Liverpool have confirmed Ryan Gravenberch's shirt number following his deadline day move from Bayern Munich.
The Reds have long been admirers of the midfielder and they stepped up their attempts to sign him during the final week of the summer transfer window.
A deal to bring him in on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich was confirmed late on Friday evening, with Gravenberch revealing that he had spoken to international teammates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo about a move to Anfield.
Liverpool also announced that Gravenberch will take the number 38 for his first season at the club.
Gravenberch wore the number 38 during his sole full season at Bayern Munich. During his final campaigns at Ajax, he took on the number 8 and 29 shirts, while he also adorned 38 during his breakthrough 2018/19 season in Amsterdam.
With the Netherlands senior national team, Gravenberch has worn the numbers 14, 16 and most recently 20.
Liverpool have scarcely handed out the number 38 to senior players before as it was usually reserved for academy graduates or fringe players.
Jon Flanagan occupied the shirt between 2011 and 2018, but it has only ever been worn for more than one season on just one other occasion.
Gravenberch will be able to make his Liverpool debut following the international break. They travel to Wolves on September 16.
