Liverpool & Newcastle consider January move for Tottenham target Lloyd Kelly

Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly could receive offers to join a number of Premier League big-hitters in January with Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all interested, sources have confirmed to 90min.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the Vitality Stadium at the end of the 2023/24 season and he is in no rush to to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

90min reported on deadline day at the end of the summer transfer window that Bournemouth rejected a late £20m bid from Tottenham to sign Kelly. The Cherries were holding out for a larger fee due to the limited time they would have had to bring in a viable replacement, but Spurs did not follow up with another bid.

Nevertheless, 90min understands that Tottenham are set to make fresh attempts to sign him in January. They sold previous third-choice centre-back Davinson Sanchez to Galatasaray earlier this week prior to the Turkish Super Lig's transfer deadline.

Summer signing Ashley Phillips, who only turned 18 in June, has seemingly been promoted into that role. The former Blackburn Rovers defender was included in Spurs' matchday squad for their 5-2 win at Burnley on Saturday, with the more senior Eric Dier again omitted.

Tottenham are not expected to be alone in the race to sign Kelly. Liverpool and Newcastle are both admirers and are also considering approaching Bournemouth over respective mid-season moves.

The Reds tentatively looked at adding a new left-sided centre-back during the summer, with Levi Colwill one of their top options before he signed a new contract at Chelsea. Micky Van de Ven, who joined Tottenham in August, was also previously a target.

Newcastle added depth at full-back over the summer window but did not bring in reinforcements at the heart of defence - an issue which has been exasperated following injuries to starting duo Fabian Schar and Sven Botman.

Kelly first joined Bournemouth in 2019 from Bristol City, with the Cherries forking out £13m for the left-sided defender.
