Red Sox DH Justin Turner put his autograph and a hilarious message on the foul ball that hit Yankees announcer John Sterling.

John Sterling already has a place in Yankees history as New York's long-time radio play-by-play announcer. But now he has one of the coolest pieces of memorabilia tied to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry as well.

On Saturday night in the second game of the series between AL East rivals, Justin Turner sent a foul ball toward the radio booth at Yankee Stadium. It shocked Sterling by ricocheting off the open window and onto his forehead.

Incredibly, Sterling kept going with his call after a brief moment of surprise. Soon after, Turner grounded out to end the game as a Yankees 3-1 win.

Yankees broadcaster got Justin Turner to sign foul ball that hit John Sterling

New York's entire broadcast team apparently had a whole lot of fun with the pretty wild turn of events. Color analyst Suzy Waldman got Turner to sign the ball!

"To John, no matter where you sit at a ballgame, you're never safe!" Turner wrote.

While Sterling sported a bandaid above his eyebrow, the ball also got a bandaid.

The odds of any foul ball making its way into the broadcasting booth is pretty low. Yet it happened with the final batter in a Yankees-Red Sox matchup. You couldn't make it up.

The Red Sox won the first game of the series in New York on Friday night, 3-2, with Rafael Devers once again getting the better of Gerrit Cole. On Saturday, the Yankees evened things up. Sunday's game went to extra innings in fitting fashion for what was a tight battle throughout. Boston got the series win, 3-2, in the 10th.

The Red Sox will head home to face Colorado next while the Yankees will move on to another rivalry battle against the Mets. Then Boston and New York will do it all again next weekend at Fenway.
