Josef Martínez joined MLS expansion franchise Atlanta United in 2017 after a three-year stint with Italian Serie A team Torino.
What the Venezuelan international striker did not know at the time was that he’d be a key figure in bringing the team violently into life and etch himself into MLS history books in the process.
Now with Inter Miami CF and after a slow recovery from a torn ACL in the first match of the 2020 season, Martínez is back. Continuing his journey in the history books, he joined the elite list of MLS all-time scorers by tying former Revs striker Taylor Twellman for the tenth spot with 101 goals.
While his season got off slow, it will be the Law of the Ex that would get Martínez looking like his old self as he scored a brace against Atlanta in Matchday 11 to make him the fastest player in MLS history to reach 100 regular season goals.
Now in Matchday 12, Martínez tapped in a pass from David Ruiz after the young midfielder laboriously made his way through defensemen and into the box.
This was Inter Miami’s third straight league victory and their fifth this season as the club continues a slow climb on the Eastern Conference table.
