James Maddison has joked that Bukayo Saka must still have been copying his dart-throw celebration when he danced away from him leading up to Tottenham Hotspur's first equaliser in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Arsenal.

The Gunners and Spurs played out an north London derby at the Emirates Stadium as both sides maintained their unbeaten starts to the new Premier League season.

Arsenal took the lead when a cross from Saka deflected in off the knee of Cristian Romero, before Son Heung-min equalised on the stroke of half-time. The hosts were awarded a penalty when Romero was punished for handling the ball in the box and Saka put his side back ahead, only for Son to level the scores again seconds later.

Saka celebrated Arsenal's goals by mimicking Maddison's trademark darts celebration into the camera. The winger then, however, let the Spurs vice-captain dribble past and away from him leading to Son's first equaliser.

Maddison was asked about Saka copying his celebration by Spurs' club channels post-match, taking time to mock his England colleague.

"Me and Bukayo had a bit of banter and a bit of trash talking on international duty," Maddison revealed.

"And I got told he did the darts celebration - he must have still been doing it when I turned him for the first goal I think, so I'll have a little word with him in there!"

Speaking to Sky Sports about Saka's technique with the celebration, Maddison added: "His action was terrible though, wasn't it?!"

Maddison has now laid on four assists in six Premier League games for Tottenham since joining from Leicester City this summer - no player has registered more.

He is also only behind Erling Haaland (nine) and Mohamed Salah (seven) in terms of total goal contributions (six).
