James Maddison believes that Tottenham Hotspur have outgrown the derogatory 'Spursy' tag they are often labelled with.

Spurs have started the 2023/24 Premier League season superbly under new head coach Ange Postecoglou, winning four and drawing two from their opening six matches.

Their latest endeavour saw them pick up a credible point away to Arsenal in the north London derby, twice coming from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

An own goal from Cristian Romero saw Arsenal break the deadlock in the first half, with Son Heung-min equalising just before the break. Bukayo Saka then scored from the penalty spot after Romero was punished for handball, but Son levelled again moments later and the spoils were shared.

Tottenham have now won the most points from losing positions in Premier League history, with their tally of 428 taking them above Manchester United's of 427.

In the 21st century, Tottenham have often been accused of lacking a winning mentality and being soft, but Maddison believes this new-look side are changing and challenging perceptions.

"Neutrals talk about Tottenham, they often say; soft, weak, bottle it, 'Spursy', all that rubbish," Maddison said to talkSPORT.

"I think the last couple of weeks shows we might be going in a slightly different direction."

Prior to Sunday's draw at Arsenal, Tottenham managed to come from behind to beat Sheffield United 2-1 at home.

Spurs trailed heading into second half stoppage time, but goals from Richarlison in the 98th minute and Dejan Kulusevski in the 100th ensured that the hosts completed the latest comeback in Premier League history.
