How Liverpool could line up with Moises Caicedo

Liverpool's midfield rebuild took a huge turn on Friday as the Reds agreed a £111m fee to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Having spent the past few weeks failing with three bids for Southampton's Romeo Lavia, Liverpool stopped messing about and vowed to make Caicedo the most expensive player in the history of English football.

Having already signed both Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this summer, Jurgen Klopp now has plenty of options available to him as he finally seeks to work out his best formation.

Here's how Caicedo could fit in at Anfield.

As a defensive midfielder

The departures of both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson left Klopp without a defensive midfielder in pre-season.

Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister have all spent time at the base of Liverpool's midfield this summer but it's not the ideal position for any of them, and so Klopp has been searching for an answer.

While it appeared as though it was set to be Romeo Lavia, Caicedo could now take up that spot.

As a central midfielder

4-3-3 is Klopp's preferred setup and it's one which could work in Caicedo's favour.

Depending on the opponent, Klopp may opt to name Trent Alexander-Arnold as his defensive midfielder, giving the right-back all the creative freedom he could desire, which would see Caicedo pushed further forward.

The Ecuador international is a real box-to-box force and so this position may well be his strongest.

In a midfield pivot

With so many attacking names to fit in, Klopp has not shied away from a 4-2-3-1 setup which gives the likes of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota the freedom to run riot.

Szoboszlai, while comfortable as a central midfielder, is equally as happy playing in an attacking role, so he could be pushed forward to leave Liverpool with a midfield pivot.

Jones and Stefan Bajcetic are both options here, but a Brighton reunion could be on the cards.
