Harry Kane told Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season that he felt it was "time to move on", paving the way for his summer transfer to Bayern Munich.

Kane had become Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer in the months leading up to his departure for Germany, but ultimately finished his time at Spurs without a trophy.

Having previously been keen to leave amid strong interest from Manchester City in 2021, with Spurs blocking a transfer then, the England captain was granted a €110m (£94m) switch to long-term admirers Bayern in August and has hit the ground running despite new surroundings on and off the pitch. So far, Kane has also been separated from his wife and children, who have stayed in England.

Kane has now told FourFourTwo that he was stepping out his "comfort zone" by engaging in the transfer process to leave Tottenham after so long.

"I didn't really know what to expect, as I'd been at Spurs for 19 years and was really happy there. So I was stepping out of my comfort zone. It was a first for me to feel how these transfers happen, and to be a part of one," he revealed.

"Last season, all I focused on was Spurs and trying to help the club finish as high as possible in the table. Once the season finished, I spoke to Spurs and explained that I felt it was time to move on and push myself as far as possible. I then went away on holiday and that's when talks started progressing. I was confident the clubs would eventually come to an agreement."

Kane is effectively Bayern's replacement for Robert Lewandowski, for whom there had been no like for like player brought in when he was sold to Barcelona in 2022.

In terms of the numbers, the 30-year-old has certainly made good so far, netting 22 times in just 18 games. He has already surpassed the 17 goals in all competitions that joint top scorers Serge Gnabry and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting maxed out at last season and could even set a new personal record for most goals in a single club campaign come June. His current best is 41 with Tottenham in 2017/18, a number he is more than halfway to matching only a third of the way through 2023/24.

At this rate, Kane is hurtling towards 60 Bayern goals for the season, which would be a phenomenal achievement to even get close to the 66 that late club icon Gerd Muller managed in 1972/73.
