David Moyes handed his Europa Conference League winners’ medal to his father after ending West Ham’s 43-year wait for a trophy. Francis Ngannou will make more money in his fight with Tyson Fury than in his entire UFC career, according to the Cameroonian’s longtime representative. Ngannou, 36, will box WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, 34, in Saudi Arabia on 28 October, marking the “Predator”’s first fight since January 2022. In that bout, Ngannou beat Ciryl Gane to retain the UFC heavyweight title, which he won in 2021 and vacated this January upon leaving the promotion. Ngannou has since signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) – a rival to the UFC – which has granted him the chance to box before he makes his debut with the company in 2024. And per Marquel Martin, Ngannou’s longtime rep, Ngannou will earn more from boxing Fury than he did in his 14 UFC fights combined. Responding to past claims that Ngannou ‘fumbled the bag’ by leaving the UFC, Martin told The MMA Hour on Wednesday (12 July), “Let’s just say this: The bag is so big, he may actually just drop it on the way to the bank. “I don’t know what the haters are trying to say right now, I kind of just blocked it out, but they’ll just be proven wrong again. This is life-changing. This is exactly what we planned and visualised, so we’re happy.” When asked if Ngannou would earn more in the Fury fight than in all of his UFC bouts combined, Martin said: “Oh, my God. I mean, by far – by multiples. Just to make [this money] even while being champion, he would’ve had to fight multiple times, just to [be in this ballpark].” As it stands, Fury’s WBC title will not be on the line in Riyadh, where he fights Ngannou, and it is unclear whether the bout will count towards the Briton’s professional record. However, Martin and Frank Warren – who promotes Fury – have insisted that the contest is not an exhibition fight. “This is an actual fight,” Martin said. “What happens with the WBC belt, we plan on talking with the WBC to get licensed. That’s our plan, and we never know, we may have the opportunity to maybe put his [belt] on the line. I don’t know, that’s for his side. “But I know that, from our side, we plan on hopefully having those conversations and making sure that we do everything in our power to. We want this to go on on [Fury’s professional] record. Tottenham have stepped up their pursuit of new centre-backs for boss Ange Postecoglou amid the ongoing uncertainty over Harry Kane’s future. Kane remains of strong interest to Bayern Munich, who are expected to launch a third bid for the forward after officials from the German club reportedly met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in London on Monday. While speculation surrounding Kane continues to grow, Tottenham have accelerated their search for new defenders with talks advancing over the transfer of Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, the PA news agency understands. Postecoglou gave the green light to Van de Ven’s signing soon after arriving in June and dialogue between the teams started last month. No final agreement over a fee – expected to be in the region of £30million – has been reached, but there is a growing confidence the Netherlands Under-21 international will make the move before Spurs’ Premier League opener at Brentford on August 13. After Van de Ven made 36 appearances for Wolfsburg in the 2022-23 campaign, and attracted interest from Liverpool, he made clear his desire to play in England during an interview with De Telegraaf in his homeland. “I have always dreamed of the Premier League because the biggest clubs play there and I also see that competition as the best in the world,” Van de Ven said in June. Four men have been arrested after a hearse was driven on to the pitch during a pre-season football match, forcing officials to abandon the game. The friendly between non-league teams Gateshead and Dunston was called off on Friday at half-time after the hearse was driven on to the pitch at Dunston’s UTS Stadium, Tyne and Wear, along with a Subaru, shortly before 8.20pm. Both vehicles were spun around in circles while leaflets were thrown from one of the cars at the club on Wellington Road. Men wearing balaclavas left the hearse and joined the second car, which was driven off the pitch and out of the stadium. Disorder will not be tolerated in the community, and anyone found to be involved will be dealt with robustly Northumbria Police statement The hearse was left on the pitch. Northumbria Police said on Saturday that three men – two aged 19 and one aged 32 – had been arrested on suspicion of affray, while a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage.
