"I had about 15 cans of Stella", he joked of how he spent the game. When quizzed on the infamous song, he simply replied: "I think there's a bit of romance in it...think about it, it's a compliment, they're saying Bowen is on fire which is unreal, and he's also s******* Dani Dyer...they're saying it can't get any better." Late Scotland comeback stuns Erling Haaland and Norway
Late Scotland comeback stuns Erling Haaland and Norway
Kenny McLean scored a dramatic 89th-minute winner for Scotland in Norway as the visitors turned their Euro 2024 qualifier on its head with two goals in as many minutes. Scotland were trailing to Erling Haaland’s 61st-minute penalty and had barely posed a threat before Lyndon Dykes capitalised on some hesitancy in the Norwegian defence to nudge the ball home after John McGinn’s attempted through ball had been intercepted. The Group A leaders soon ensured they continued their perfect start to the campaign when Dykes laid McGinn’s pass back to substitute McLean, who curled a low shot just inside the far post. The visitors wore black armbands in memory of Gordon McQueen, who scored his fifth and final international goal in a 4-0 win in the same stadium in 1979 on the previous occasion the teams met in a European Championship qualifier. And they provided a fitting tribute to the 30-times capped centre-back with a sensational comeback victory. Jack Hendry was handed possibly the most difficult task in world football at the moment when he was drafted in to play at the heart of a back three tasked with stopping Haaland. The Club Brugge defender was the only change to the team that beat Spain in March after Grant Hanley dropped out with a serious Achilles injury. The best chance of the first half fell to Norway forward Alexander Sorloth, who sent a free header from eight yards straight at Angus Gunn. Scotland struggled to retain possession in the opening 20 minutes before settling down somewhat. Andy Robertson produced two good runs and crosses but they did not lead to anything and McGinn was closed down quickly after getting a sight of goal following Ryan Christie’s cross. Steve Clarke’s side were employing a flat back five out of possession and trying to keep a high line. The only time Haaland got the ball in a decent position in the first half, Callum McGregor quickly tracked back to make a penalty-box tackle. The striker might have had a far better chance if he had not been hauled down by Hendry while beginning a chase for a ball over the top. Hendry was the last defender but only received a yellow card given the foul was on the halfway line. The Slovenian referee was a lot harsher in handing bookings to McGinn and Kieran Tierney either side of half-time. Ola Solbakken and McGinn saw decent long-range shots saved early in the second half before Hendry got away with some penalty-box grappling with Haaland, although the striker did not appeal unlike some of his team-mates. However, he did not have long to wait for a spot-kick. Ryan Porteous grabbed the striker’s shirt as he looked set to attack Sorloth’s cross and the referee immediately pointed to the spot when Haaland went down. Porteous in return received a yellow card which rules him out of Tuesday’s visit of Georgia. Gunn dived the right way and came close but was beaten by the power of the strike from Haaland, who had only scored once in his previous eight club matches but took his tally for the season for club and country to 59. Scotland soon lost Tierney to injury with Liam Cooper entering the fray and they were making no inroads into Norway’s lead before Clarke made a triple switch in the 79th minute and moved to a back four. McLean, Stuart Armstrong and Billy Gilmour came on. Haaland went off in the 84th minute and Scotland soon stunned the hosts and delighted their travelling fans with their late double whammy. Lewis Hamilton rues poor form after Max Verstappen’s dominant win in Hungary
Lewis Hamilton rues poor form after Max Verstappen’s dominant win in Hungary
Lewis Hamilton admitted he has not been driving at his best for over a year after a poor start at the Hungarian Grand Prix allowed Max Verstappen to rack up a record-breaking victory. Verstappen gazumped pole-sitter Hamilton on the downhill run to the opening corner at the Hungaroring before racing off into the distance to score his seventh successive victory of this most one-sided of Formula One seasons. Hamilton finished only fourth after both McLaren drivers also moved ahead of him inside the first two bends of Sunday’s 70-lap race. Lando Norris was runner-up to Verstappen for the second consecutive race, 33.7 seconds behind the dominant Dutchman, while Sergio Perez fought back from ninth to third with Oscar Piastri crossing the line in fifth. Verstappen’s ninth win from the 11 rounds so far sees him move 110 points clear of Perez heading into next weekend’s concluding round before the summer break in Belgium. The Dutchman’s Red Bull team remain unbeaten this season, setting a new F1 record with their 12th consecutive win. For Hamilton, he is now 34 appearances without a victory – the longest streak of his career. “I have not been at my best for over a year,” said Hamilton who has not won since he was denied a record eighth world title at the concluding round in Abu Dhabi in 2021. Across the same period, Verstappen – the man who beat him to the title on that controversial night in the desert – has triumphed 24 times. But the seven-time world champion added: “I am not disappointed. It was obvious that we do not have the quickest car. Max got a better start than me, I got a bit of wheelspin, and I was a bit compromised after that. “I am really proud of myself and the job we did to get pole and outperform the world champion and the other two McLaren cars that are quicker than us. But today is just a reality check. The reality is that we are not fast enough. “I was told in the strategy meeting this morning that I would be five tenths a lap slower than the Red Bull so the fight is not with Max but hopefully that we would be able to fight the McLarens. But then the McLaren was also too quick for us.” Hamilton’s initial reaction to the lights turning green was fine enough, but he lacked traction in the next phase, with Verstappen moving alongside the Mercedes and then ahead under braking for the first corner. Forced wide by Verstappen, Hamilton then lost two further positions. First to Piastri at the same right-hander, before Norris also muscled his way ahead around the outside of the next bend. Hamilton had a nibble back at his countryman on the long run up to Turn 4 but Norris held firm. A contrite Hamilton was straight on the radio. “Sorry about that, guys,” he said. “Don’t sweat about it, Lewis,” came the reassuring response from Hamilton’s ever-upbeat race engineer, Peter Bonnington. As Verstappen did what Verstappen does and controlled the race to perfection, Hamilton appeared rattled. He questioned if his Mercedes team had turned down his engine after falling a dozen seconds back from Verstappen by the time he stopped for fresh rubber on lap 16. Where am I losing all the time? It is just the car is slow. Lewis Hamilton He then expressed his exasperation at being cast more than 10 seconds behind third-placed Piastri, the Australian dropping behind Norris at the first round of stops. “Where am I losing all the time?” he asked, adding: “It is just the car is slow.” Bonnington then called on Hamilton to pick up the pace. But the despondent 38-year-old replied: “This is as fast as it goes, mate. That is what I have been saying.” When he finally stopped for rubber for a second time with 20 laps to run, Hamilton dropped to fifth. He wiped out a six-second deficit to Piastri inside a handful of laps, and at the start of lap 57 he breezed past the McLaren man at the first corner, before taking the chequered flag 39 seconds behind the all-conquering Verstappen. “The Red Bull car is phenomenal,” added an envious Hamilton. The Briton’s Mercedes team-mate George Russell started 18th and finished sixth, benefiting from a five-second penalty to Charles Leclerc who sped in the pit lane. Daniel Ricciardo was a commendable 13th on his first race back. KSI vs Tommy Fury: Ringwalk time revealed and how you can watch online
KSI vs Tommy Fury: Ringwalk time revealed and how you can watch online
YouTuber and rapper KSI (real name Olajide “JJ” Olatunji) hopes to build upon his “legacy”, while Love Island star Tommy Fury plans to bring an end to influencer boxing, as the fighters prepare to battle it out in the ring on Saturday. The match forms part of ‘The Prime Card’, billed as such because KSI’s rival turned business partner Logan Paul's bout against mixed martial artist Dillon Danis is the co-main event. Hype has already been building around the fights after Danis shared a series of images of Paul’s fiancée, Nina Agdal, nude, and with other men on Twitter (now known as X) – a move which sparked controversy online. Meanwhile, fans will be waiting to see if KSI can do what rival boxer and YouTuber Jake Paul couldn’t and defeat Fury in the ring. As if that wasn’t enough, things intensified following a dramatic first press conference back in August, which was brought to an abrupt close when John Fury flipped over tables in anger. Now, with it being just days away from the event at Manchester Arena, here’s what’s coming up and how you can watch all the action. When is the KSI vs Tommy Fury fight? The event kicks off at 7pm GMT on Saturday (October 14), with streaming site DAZN saying the ringwalks for the main event – that’s KSI vs Tommy Fury – taking place at approximately 11:25pm UK time (6:25pm ET), though this could change depending on how long the undercard fights take. A poster shared to X by KSI on Sunday said the main event is scheduled to start “approximately five hours later” after the 7pm start time, which takes it to midnight. Either way, it’ll be a long, busy night for boxing fans. Who’s on the undercard? And before the two big names have their fights, there’s several bouts listed on the undercard. These are: Salt Papi vs Slim Deen the Great vs Walid Sharks 2 King Kenny vs Anthony Taylor Whindersson Nunes vs My Mate Nate Wassabi Lmao (Alex Wassabi and Nichlmao) vs Los Pinedas Coladas (Luis Pineda and B Dave) Astrid Wett vs Alexia Grace Swarmz vs Ryan Taylor 2 Chase DeMoor vs Tempo Arts S-X vs DTG Where can I watch the fight? Unless you managed to nab a ticket to the sold-out event in Manchester, the main way of watching the fight is through the streaming platform DAZN, with the pay-per-view (PPV) priced at £19.99 for UK viewers and $54.99 for US subscribers. The full list of available countries can be found on DAZN’s website. In addition to the PPV, though, viewers will be required to have a DAZN subscription. The three options are: Monthly Saver: £1.00 for the first month, then £9.99 a month – it can only be cancelled after 12 months Flexible Pass: £5.00 for the first month, then £19.99 a month – it can be cancelled anytime with 30 days' notice. Annual Super Saver: £99.99 upfront for a year. It’s also been reported that cinemas will screen the event through the company Unique X, though it’s not clear which UK venues will be showing the fights (we’ve spotted listings in Birmingham and Stockport at first). What else is happening this fight week? There’s the open workout on Wednesday, undercard and main event press conferences on Thursday, the weigh-in on Friday and a celebrity countdown show just before the event on Saturday.
