Tommy Fury left the ring as the victor, but KSI was the moral winner following their six-round boxing bout at the AO Arena in Manchester on Saturday night. An evening of entertaining Misfits boxing saw Logan Paul’s co-main event against Dillon Danis descend into a brawl involving security personnel, before reaching its crescendo as KSI (real name Olajide Olatunji) boosted his stock, and that of his company, with an unorthodox yet effective performance against the professional boxer. From the first-round bell Fury was hurried by KSI’s punching speed and sharp footwork, too often enticed into coming forward aggressively to attack the openings left by the 30-year-old’s low guard. A quick overhead right from KSI clipped Fury on the neck in the first round and he looked shocked having not seen the punch coming. That was just one of KSI’s impressive moments during the opening rounds, as he utilised a pacey double-jab with a combination of uppercuts and right hooks to build up some early momentum. His gameplan worked and repeatedly frustrated Fury who drew him into clinches attempting to exert his extra weight onto the lighter man, much like brother Tyson does during in his heavyweight bouts. From the inside, Fury twice landed punches on the back of KSI’s head, earning himself a deduction in the second round and leaving him facing an uphill battle to claw back the point – preferably through a knockdown which never came. Fury, who was calmly composed in his previous fight against Jake Paul, seemed scatterbrained and off kilter. He hardly threw a jab and missed out on a lot of punches. The post-fight stats showed he landed more, just, with 39 of his finding the target compared to KSI’s 38. Those statistics are too alike to give Fury any edge, but his intent was clearer. He strode forward frequently, looking for the knockout he’d promised to deliver in the build-up, though it never truly seemed likely. Both men took hits, both dished them out, neither dominated nor looked in real trouble. Clinching was the overwhelming visual across the six rounds, with KSI using it as an effective tool later on to nullify the chances of a knockdown as his team assured him that he was ahead on the points. Fury had no answer for it. He complained to the referee but was drawn back into close quarters before he could do any damage. When the bell sounded to end the fight, Tyson and the Fury corner looked worried. They needn’t have been. The judges scores of 57-57, 57-56, 57-56 sent the young Fury leaping into the air in celebration. Tyson gave it the old double fist pump. Everyone else was dumbstruck. KSI went so far as to call it a ‘robbery’ and the watching fans agreed, jeering Fury during his post-match interview. This is his home city, and a friendly crowd knew that justice hadn’t been served. Fury didn’t care. He believed he’d done enough, labelling KSI a ‘sore loser’ before exiting the ring with his unbeaten record intact, though slightly less pristine than it was before. Crossover boxing events such as this are no strangers to controversy and this result was controversial. Yet, it sets up the possibility of a heated rematch, which KSI says he’s up for, or the chance for Jake Paul to re-enter the game against either of the headline acts, who knows where it may yet lead. The result may have put a dent in Fury’s reputation as a professional (despite his win) but it’s boosted the legitimacy of the genre itself and raised the level of intrigue for what will inevitably come next. And for the entrepreneurial YouTubers-turned-boxers who thrive in this space that’s the bottom line. KSI might have lost the fight, but he’s winning the war. As YouTuber and musician Olajide “KSI” Olatunji reels from a controversial loss to Love Island star and boxer Tommy Fury, the Manchester fighter’s previous opponent Jake Paul has called on his influencer rival to “finish what we started”, appearing to welcome a long-awaited bout against the two. Fury defeated his second YouTuber at the AO Manchester Arena on Saturday night as part of the Misfits Prime Card event (which also featured Logan Paul’s fight – and victory - against mixed martial artist Dillon Danis), with the judges’ scorecards handing him a win against KSI by a majority decision. KSI has branded the result “outrageous” and immediately announced his intention to appeal the outcome. Now, in a YouTube video titled “Let’s talk about last night”, Jake Paul talked about Saturday night’s fights and expressed his desire to “decapitate” KSI at some point. He said: “This kid’s ego is out of control, kicking the screens, crying, stuttering, asking for an appeal. This guy is 30 years old. “Take it like a man, don’t be a sore loser, you lost. Tommy had a point deducted and you still lost. “I still want to decapitate KSI. We have to finish what we started, and the Tommy Fury rematch is right there. “Tommy’s going to want that payday. Payday, Tommy, payday!” Let's talk about last night. www.youtube.com As a reminder, after defeating content creator Joe Weller in his first boxing match, Olatunji called out both Logan and Jake Paul for a fight, but the younger brother backed away from the challenge with Logan taking on the man who would later become his friend and Prime business partner. Jake, meanwhile, fought KSI’s brother Deji on an undercard fight on KSI vs Logan Paul, which he won. He then went on to take on several fighters from other sporting backgrounds (such as former basketball player Nate Robinson and former mixed martial artist Ben Askren) before losing to Tommy Fury earlier this year. Paul’s video also revealed his brother’s dressing room victory speech, in which Logan said he “really wanted to knock [Danis] out so badly” but told himself he wasn’t going to “fight with emotion”. This comes after Paul said in a pre-match interview that he ‘forgives’ his opponent, despite Danis sharing multiple pictures online of his fiancée Nina Agdal kissing other men which led to the Danish model filing a lawsuit against him. Paul continued: “The one thing we did do, is beat that f***ing b***’s ass … His face is muddled, to say the least. “He put me through hell these last two months, me and my girl [Nina] got stronger than ever. Baby girl, I love you so much … I can’t wait to start a family with you, maybe we can talk about having that baby soon.” The suggestion was met with cheers from those in the room, with some chanting “do it today” in response. Meanwhile, Danis has taken to Twitter to say he would “call off the wedding” if he was Agdal, challenging him to a fight in “MMA next”. “A jiu jitsu guy with no boxing camp or coach made his debut, never wobbled, never dropped, had no standing eight count, and rocked you multiple times. “You achieved nothing in your own sport,” he wrote. Danis handed Paul the win after being disqualified for attempting to perform an illegal ‘guillotine’ move in the final round, one which led to security guards flooding the ring in absolutely chaotic scenes. Lauren James has been handed a two-game ban by Fifa after being sent off during England’s last-16 win over Nigeria, meaning she will miss both Saturday’s quarter-final with Colombia and the subsequent World Cup semi-final should her teammates progress. James was shown a red card after standing on Nigeria defender Michelle Alozie during the knockout game, which England won via a penalty shootout. The Chelsea forward was given an automatic one-match suspension and feared being ruled out of the tournament altogether, with Fifa typically increasing cases of “violent conduct” to a three-game ban. However, the governing body’s disciplinary committee showed some leniency and James could now return for the World Cup final, should England make it to the showpiece on Sunday 20 August in Sydney. James had apologised for the incident, posting in response to a tweet from Alozie: “All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened. Also, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.” James became the fourth England player to be sent off in a World Cup knockout match after David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and current Lionesses captain Millie Bright. England manager Sarina Wiegman admitted James had “lost her emotions” during a moment of indiscretion which could see the 21-year-old miss the remainder of the World Cup through suspension. Alozie had earlier tweeted in defence of James. “Abeg, rest,” she wrote. “We are playing on the world’s stage. This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. All respect for Lauren James.” And speaking on Thursday ahead of England’s quarter-final, teammate Beth England said the players had rallied around James. “Obviously she’s disappointed with what happened on the day,” England said. “It was a split second, emotional moment that happened. We’ve got around her.
