England have no concerns about their attacking ability despite failing to score in each of their last two matches, midfielder Ella Toone insists. The Lionesses, fourth in the FIFA world rankings, kick off their World Cup quest on Saturday against Haiti in Brisbane, just over a week after playing out a goalless draw in a behind-closed-doors training fixture with Canada on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It was the same result as their pre-tournament home send-off against Portugal in Milton Keynes on July 1, but Toone has barely heard the subject raised during team training sessions in Australia. She said: “I don’t think it’s been spoken about as much as other people have. We’ve had a lot of games under Sarina (Wiegman), we’ve had a lot of different goalscorers who have scored so many goals, so I don’t think it’s anything that we’re worried about. “Like I say, we’ve had time off, we’ve come back together, we’re learning how to play with each other again, we’re finding those connections on the pitch and we’re having those chances. “I think I’d be more worried if the chances weren’t coming. It’s now about us putting them away, but I don’t think that’s had a massive effect on us. I don’t think that we’re dwelling on that. “We’re very confident and we know we’ve got a lot of goalscorers in the group as well, so we’re definitely creating those chances. It’s now about making sure we put them in the back of the net.” Friday’s match-up against seventh-ranked Canada was not for official records and not a formal fixture. Almost all of Wiegman’s 23-woman squad saw some action, save goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck and forward Bethany England. The decision not to play England, who was in Wiegman’s European Championship-winning squad but did not see any game time – started the social media rumour mill swirling, but the Tottenham striker appeared to be in good health as she fully trained with the squad on Saturday. This year’s Sidemen match will take place on Saturday, September 9. A kick-off time has yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected to be at 3pm. Where is it being held? The 2023 match will take place at 62,500-capacity London Stadium in Stratford, London. Given the success of last year, it’s not surprising to see the event take place in a bigger venue. Graham Gilmore, CEO of London Stadium, said after the venue was announced: “This event goes from strength to strength, with the move to London Stadium demonstrating the success The Sidemen have built over recent years, not only in bringing so many great names together, but raising money for important charities too. "In addition, we will be delighted to welcome the huge global audience on streaming and digital channels, who will be joining the 60k plus fans in the Stadium!” Who is playing this year? The official line-up has yet to be announced, but the Sidemen members will be taking part. The group includes KSI, Behzinga, Miniminter, Vikkstar123, Zerkaa, TBJZL and W2S. As ever, the YouTube Allstars will likely be made up of some of the most popular names on the platform and it has been confirmed that MrBeast will play. More names will be announced in due course, although the likes of Chunkz, Mr Beast, iShowSpeed and Yung Filly all took part last year, while Mark Goldbridge was their manager. Rodrigo Bentancur was forced off following a poorly timed tackle from Aston Villa’s Matty Cash, in a fresh blow to Tottenham’s mounting injury concerns. The Uruguayan sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage in February and was making his first start for Tottenham for nine months when he had to leave the field after just half an hour. Cash caught Bentancur on the ankle with a miss-judged sliding challenge, creating a new problem for Tottenham to contend with amid an ongoing injury crisis. It was an unnecessary challenge, but there was nothing in the impact to suggest it would be worth more than a yellow card or any immediate evidence of the damage caused to Bentancur. Ahead of the match against Aston Villa, Spurs were without at least nine first-team players ruled out, not including Bentancur’s issue. Bentancur had made his first competitive start in nine months for Uruguay against Bolivia on Tuesday, but two matches within a week might have been too much for the midfielder. Last season, Bentancur was one of the best players before the injury, but when he left the field hobbling he was replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Edwin van der Sar has resigned from his position as chief executive at Ajax. The 52-year-old former Manchester United, Fulham and Netherlands goalkeeper, who started his playing career at Ajax, has been on the Eredivisie club’s board of directors since 2012. He was initially director of marketing, then became chief executive in 2016, and had been on a contract running to 2025. Van der Sar told the club’s official website: “After almost 11 years on the board, I am done. “We have experienced wonderful things together, but it has also been an incredibly tough period. I am very grateful for the people I have met and worked with during my second career at Ajax, and what we have achieved and been through together. “I feel the need to take some distance, to get some rest, and to do other things. It doesn’t feel good to take decisions about the future of this wonderful club in the coming period. That is why I have decided to resign.” Van der Sar will transfer his duties to the board from June 1, and it has been requested that he formally remains in his position until August 1. Edwin will be available for the transfer and advise until August. We expect to announce a new board of directors after August 1.
