Girona sporting director Quique Carcel is keen to re-sign midfielder Oriol Romeu from Barcelona and believes a deal is "not unfeasible".
Romeu spent the 2022/23 season on the books with La Liga newcomers Girona and made an enormous impact, helping the Catalan side finish tenth in their first season back in the top flight before sealing a return to boyhood club Barcelona.
Barca boss Xavi wanted Romeu to help fill the void left by Sergio Busquets' summer departure, and while the 32-year-old has done an admirable job of the task at hand, he has not yet won over the entire fanbase and club officials continue to look for a new long-term signing - Corinthians' Gabriel Moscardo is a target for the La Liga giants.
With Romeu's long-term future at Barcelona unclear, Carcel has admitted he is desperate to see the midfielder return to Girona sooner rather than later.
"Personally I want 100% [to re-sign Romeu]," he told Diari de Girona. "He brought us magical things. Many players told me he taught them how to compete.
"Do I see the option to sign him? It's not easy because there are contracts involved, but I don't see it as unfeasible."
Asked whether a move for Romeu would come in January or further down the line, Carcel simply repeated: "I don't see it as unfeasible."
As part of Romeu's move to Barcelona, 20-year-old midfielder Pablo Torre left Camp Nou to join Girona on loan, but the youngster has managed just 120 minutes across eight appearances for the unlikely La Liga leaders so far this season.
Carcel was asked whether Torre could leave the club in January, but he instead urged the loanee to keep his head down and continue working hard.
"He's young, he's got talent and he needs to keep working," Carcel said. "He is in a team that is experiencing a great moment.
"In football you have to be patient and be prepared. He's very young and doesn't have that many professional games either. It's not easy. Everything around him must be positive because if it is, he will take a step forward and bring us a lot."
