Former Penn State standout reveals his biggest gripe with James Franklin

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth was not a fan of his former Penn State head coach James Franklin being all about in-class attendance in college and all that good nerd book stuff.

Oh, James Franklin would have hated me so much in college…

There are people who go to class, and then there's Buhler… With a Mendoza Line in-class attendance average, my GPA at the University of Georgia certainly reflected that. I still pay a price for it every day, but it also led me to a career that I love so much. I wouldn't have it any other way?! Interestingly, the same sort of principle applies to one Pat Freiermuth of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While appearing on Pardon My Take, he told Big Kat and PFT Commenter how much he loathed Franklin's in-class attendance policy. Like, if you went to Penn State, you had to go to class if you wanted to play football. State College, Pennsylvania doesn't actively try to kill you through your liver quite like Athens, Georgia does, but it sure snows a helluva lot more in the middle of nowhere.

Every college program is run differently, but I can assure you that going to class got him drafted.

Just imagine if Freiermuth got suspended ahead of his biggest game at Penn State in his college career, only because he missed a class on a Thursday morning. I mean, I did miss a final one time!

Just because I could've maybe gotten into Vanderbilt out of high school doesn't mean I belonged…

Pat Freiermuth totally hated James Franklin's attendance policy at Penn State

If college tried to teach Freiermuth and I anything, it is that showing up is most important! So is looking people in the eye, giving a firm hand shake and wearing a suit, you corporate stooge, you. Well, what if I told you that The Other Guys like yours truly can low-key win in life? We don't go chasing waterfalls, and we certainly don't want no scrubs. We just creep, creep in the background.

I may not have takes to pardon, but I respect the fact that you can, in fact, yell at people, grow your hair out and never take your sunglasses off, and be a rockstar. People will hate you, but haters gonna hate. Gnome sayin'?! Regardless, when Yinzers yell Muth at the top of their lungs in between gulps of IC Lights and Renegade intros, you know that Freiermuth and I are right in this.

While the Steelers could be going places with The Fake Slide King himself in Kenny Pickett, why hasn't Franklin taken the Nittany Lions to the playoff yet? He probably did more with less at Vanderbilt, to be totally honest. Franklin is like Franklin the Turtle when it comes to treating the four-team College Football Playoff like it is a got dam asymptote. Yeah, I know what that thing is!

I did the math, and all the times the Freiermuths of the world went to class didn't matter. The only thing I learned in a lecture hall was that my ADD is not going to let me sit still for 75 minutes. You can read, or you can write, right? Would you rather go to a concert, or perform on stage? I'll let you pick, but losers can't be choosers! They write stories about people in the game, not at the game…

It's too late in the game for me to pick another NFL team, but I gotta say, 'Muth made a pretty strong argument for the Stillers, man. I would love to be part of a massive, nationwide fanbase, but too bad I already done got two, bruh, in the Atlanta Braves and them Georgia Bulldogs. Them Dawgs Is Hell, Don't They?! Yeah, I am a learned scribe from The Classic City with a degree, aight.

Just because you love college football doesn't mean you have to be in love with sacred academia.
