While El Clasico is regarded as the biggest game in Spanish football, there are a lot of people who will tell you the Seville derby is the best when you consider everything that makes a rivalry great.
El Clasico has always been an outlier in this sense as it is often referred to as a derby despite the sides being so far away from each other geographically. Seville is a real two-team city and there have been some superb iterations of El Gran Derbi over the last few years with both sides being very competitive.

The first match between the two teams in Seville will take place at Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, the home of Sevilla. It is located fairly centrally within the city, another reason why this is such a superb derby.
That game is scheduled for 12 November 2023, which is fairly late in the first half of the campaign.
The reverse fixture will take place at Estadio Benito Villamarin, the home of Real Betis. Their ground is slightly further out of the centre than Sevilla's but there is still a lot in the area and there is less than an hour between the two stadiums on foot. What happened between Sevilla and Real Betis in 2022/23?
Thanks to the Copa del Rey throwing the two Seville sides together, there were three derbies to enjoy during the 2022/23 season. The first came in a very feisty November affair.
The game ended 1-1 with a Jesus Navas own goal and a late equaliser from Nemanja Gudelj. The first red card of the game came in the 38th minute for Gonzalo Montiel after a very poor tackle. At the very end of the first half, Nabil Fekir was sent off for a flailing arm.
After missing a couple of superb chances, Betis were reduced to nine players as a bad tackle from Borja Iglesias resulted in the third and final red card of the game.
Next up was the Copa round of 16 clash between the two sides. This one went the way of Betis as they reacted to Papu Gomez's opener by netting twice through Fekir and Sergio Canales. The second La Liga game of the season between the two sides ended 0-0 in May, but Betis' Juan Miranda was sent off which meant there were four red cards across three derbies last season.

There is quite a lot of work for Real Betis to do when it comes to reeling in Sevilla on head-to-head record.
They are not a million miles behind, but it could be a very long time before they can claim bragging rights. The other issue for Betis is that Sevilla cannot stop winning the Europa League, which is a major source of pride for the club.
