Chiefs snow game is fine with Kansas City
The Kansas City Chiefs won't have home field advantage for this week's game against the Denver Broncos, but snow in the forecast might make them feel right at home. After all, Patrick Mahomes loves snow games.
Arrowhead Pride points out that Mahomes, despite growing up in Texas where snow is a rarity, has performed extremely well in rough conditions, including a game where the Chiefs beat their opponent for this week, the Broncos, 23-3.
Remarkably, that game in 2019 included Mahomes throwing for 340 yards. Snow games often resolve to teams relying on the run game since throwing the ball gets difficult when it's precipitating, especially when that precipitation turns to snow.
Travis Kelce was his top target that day, securing 142 yards in the air.
Justyn Ross will continue to practice after arrest
After his arrest on Monday, wide receiver Justyn Ross will continue to practice according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Reid provided that information and nothing more as the Chiefs continue to comment very little on the situation in general while it develops.
"Addressing that upfront. We're taking in all the information. [We] have been will continue to do that," Reid explained, H/T ChiefsWire. "He's back here, he'll work today. And we'll just take it from there. Other than that, I really don't have any information for you other than what we've gathered."
Ross faces charges after he was arrested in Shawnee, Kansas. The charge against him is for a felony charge of criminal damage according to ESPN.
Later, it was reported by the Kansas City Star that he was also charged with a count of domestic battery. The charge is a misdemeanor.
The Kansas City Star reported that a female victim, who Ross, "is or has been in a dating relationship," with suffered minor injuries after Ross was, "dragging her through the house and has torn up the house," according to the Star.
Ross was viewed as a low-risk, high-reward player after the Chiefs signed him as an undrafted free agent. Once one of the top dynamic receiver in college, his draft stock tanked due to injury. Thus far, he's only brought in 34 yards of offense on three catches, despite the Chiefs looking for a standout receiver.
Chiefs believed to be wise to still be in WR trade market
The Kansas City Chiefs reunited with Mecole Hardman, who had spent all his years with the Chiefs before signing with the New York Jets this offseason. KC traded for Hardman to add to the receiving room which has largely been a committee-driven approach this season.
ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano recently wrote that he thinks the Chiefs could still be in the trade market (subscription required) for a wide receiver despite the addition. He writes that he trusts Reid and Mahomes to figure it out, but says that Hardman's reliability (both due to health and general performance) won't change the game entirely for Kansas City, possibly leading them to stay active in deals.
That validates what Jeremy Fowler, also of ESPN, said last week when he reported the Chiefs were still one of the teams in on the receiver market. The Chiefs could look at players like Marquise Brown or Jaylon Johnson Jr. Other receivers available are Hunter Renfrow and Jerry Jeudy, though you have to anticipate the Broncos would be reluctant to deal with KC.
The one thing worth considering is that the receiver market is the most active. While there appears to be adequate supply, there are also plenty of buyers, including teams who already have deep receiving corps on paper.
That in mind, players may not come as cheap as the Chiefs may like and could opt to just roll with what they've got, relying on the Mahomes magic to figure it out. Clearly, Travis Kelce can still be a receiving threat, and so he plus a stable committee of receivers could be enough to get the job done.
