Casemiro lauds 'incredible quality' of Man Utd teammates

Casemiro has praised the quality of two Manchester United teammates whom he also shares the international stage with.

31-year-old Casemiro has made a big impact at Old Trafford following his £60m move from Real Madrid, helping United to the cusp of Champions League qualification and a Carabao Cup trophy win in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge.

The Brazilian was on the scoresheet in Saturday's 1-0 win at Bournemouth, though he hasn't had things all his own way this season – two straight red cards seeing him miss a number of Premier League game through suspension.

Casemiro was joined in the United arrivals lounge last summer by winger Antony, who eventually put pen to paper on a long-term contract after a lengthy transfer saga involving Ajax.

Antony is yet to find his best form for United but there have been plenty of encouraging signs from the 23-year-old, leading Casemiro to praise his ability and that of midfield colleague, Fred.

“Antony has incredible quality," Casemiro said after the win at the Vitality Stadium. "Fred hasn’t played a lot but he has always been giving the best when he has the opportunity to play. He has a really high level. They are really good players.”

United head into their final two games of the Premier League season needing just a point to secure a place in the top four ahead of Liverpool, and although that would appear achievable - both matches are at Old Trafford against Chelsea and Fulham - the experienced Casemiro has warned against complacency.

“It’s true that we haven’t reached the objective yet,” he said. “We still need one point. We cannot even think about drawing the next game, we need to go out to win the three points in the next game. We cannot be relaxed.

"We know Chelsea aren’t going doing well but they are a huge club that won the Champions League just a few years ago. It’s going to be a really difficult game. We are going to play in our stadium with our fans. Now we know we are really close to our objective, which is to qualify.”

Casemiro also spoke about the impact of United manager Ten Hag, admitting that the Dutchman's had 'surprised him' with his ambition to reverse the ailing fortunes of the former 13-time Premier League winners.
