Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has finally conceded Luka Modric 'is not happy' with his current role in his setup.

Modric has seen his minutes significantly reduced so far this season, with Ancelotti opting to play Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and summer signing Jude Bellingham ahead of the diminutive Croatian.

He has made just two starts for Los Blancos in all competitions so far this season, while he was an unused substitute in their last two La Liga games.

Earlier this week, Ancelotti insisted Modric did not have any 'problem' with his reduced role. But speaking at a press conference on Friday ahead of this weekend's clash with Osasuna, the Italian admitted for the first time that the 38-year-old is unsettled.

"Modric is not happy because he is not playing a lot, but he is very motivated and always wants to help the team. He has a very important role in this squad, in the dressing room," Ancelotti said.

"I love Luka Modric, the players love Luka Modric, we all love Luka Modric."

Modric has been heavily linked with a move to Lionel Messi's Inter Miami in recent weeks due to his current standing in Real Madrid's squad, but when asked if he could leave in the January transfer window, Ancelotti was firm.

"Absolutely not. No chance. He doesn't want to leave," he replied.

"He thinks he's an important player and we think the same. He's a very important player for us. We're happy to keep him."

Modric's contract at Real Madrid expires in June 2024, meaning he is free to talk to other clubs about a free transfer next summer once the January window opens.
