'Anything possible' for Celtic in Champions League says Rodgers

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes the Hoops can compete at Champions League level despite failing to win a game in the group stages since 2017.

Rodgers was in charge during his first spell at the club the last time the Scottish champions were victorious at the top level of European football by beating Anderlecht 3-0 away.

Celtic begin their latest Champions League campaign away to Feyenoord on Tuesday.

But after also being drawn alongside Lazio and Atletico Madrid in Group E, Rodgers is confident of springing a surprise.

"Anything is possible in the group," said the former Liverpool boss at his pre-match press conference.

"We have seen already this season that the spirit of this team will never be broken.

"You have to have that at this level when you are a team like ourselves coming into it, when people want to dismiss you in the tournament.

"It's about being competitive, you have to work very hard, you have to work very smart, and let's see where it takes us."

Off the field Celtic are in rude health after announcing a pre-tax profit of £40.7 million for the 2022/23 season on Monday.

A return to the Champions League, player sales and compensation for Ange Postecoglou to take charge of Tottenham contributed to a club record revenue of £120 million.

The Glasgow giants had £72 million in the bank "net of bank borrowings" on June 30 this year.
